More communication strategies
A person with dementia has impaired communication skills. Either he cannot make another person understand what he wants or he cannot understand what another person is trying to say to him or both.
What then do you do as the facilitator of communication?
Obviously you have to listen closely to whatever verbal sounds the person with dementia makes , to the words that maybe do not make sense or to the persons body language or emotions.
You are kind of like a detective trying to solve a mystery that can be ever changing.
No one said caring for a person with dementia was easy
More next time relying on the KISS theory
