In the last post we were discussing this interesting fact about dementia In 2002 seniors might have gained protection from memory loss.
”Why is not this trend continuing”, I inquired?
Elders and many others are not practicing healthy lifestyle habits . I think it is that simple
I also asked, “Will the number of people getting dementia increase or decrease this year?”
I think the number will increase this year because people, especially the elderly, are under a lot of stress and do not know how to deal with it.
They deal with stress in bad ways. Plus they have not developed healthy habits.
What can we do about this?
Your input please.

Here is an interesting fact about dementia and memory loss in 2002. In 2002 seniors might have gained protection from memory loss. A study showed that people who tyrned 70 in 2002 than those turning 70 in previous years. Why is this? An interesting question, is it because they had more education and were more likely to pay attention to cardiovascular risk factors that can harm the heart and also damage the brain.
Why is not this trend continuing? The only way to slow down the numbers of those getting dementia is to practice health lifestyle habits.
Do you practice healthy lifestyle habits?
Will the number of people getting dementia increase or decrease this year?
My opinion in my next post.

Here are some final thoughts about Vitamin B6 and dementia.
We were discussing that certain medications decrease how much Vitamin B6 is absorbed.
Therefore it is necessary that you ask your doctor, if any medication you are on affects how much Vitamin B6 your body absorbs. Find out if you need to take a supplement temporarily while taking other medications.
Most people over 50 need 1.7 micrograms of Vitamin B6 a day. Over 200 micrograms a day can be toxic.
So eat foods on the list in a previous post. Take a supplement if you do not like or cannot tolerate these foods. Do more research on the amount of Vitamin B6 in your favorite foods. Stay away from junk foods. And eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each and every day.

Here is more information about Vitamin B6 and dementia
Vitamin B6 absorption is related to the amount of protein you eat because it functions in the metabolism of protein.
Please note that people over 50 need more Vitamin B6 than younger adults.
So how much Vitamin B6 do you need to stave off dementia?
As stated earlier, the biggest risk factor in getting dementia is age. The older you get, the more likely you are to get any of the dementias.
Before answering that, another interesting fact is that certain medications such as some antibiotics including penicillin, decrease the absorption of Vitamin B6.
Nest time the final words on Vitamin B6 and dementia

As promised in the last post, I will be discussing how much Vitamin B6 is enough to prevent dementia and good sources of Vitamin B6.
As I stated earlier, Vitamin B6, like all the B vitamins is water soluble which means the body cannot store it. This makes it necessary for you to eat some foods with Vitamin B6 everyday.
The good news is that just about every natural food has some Vitamin B6 in it. The bad news is that many Americans eat a lot of junk food that is processed. This can destroy some of Vitamin B6

Back to the role of Vitamin B6 and dementia prevention.
First of all Vitamin B6 is a water soluble vitamin which means it cannot be stored in the body. This means you need some in your diet everyday.
Eating foods like pork, chicken ,peanuts, eggs, and most vegetables should give you enough Vitamin B6 to stave off dementia.
Do not have too much B6 in one day because this can cause numbness and tingling in your hands, feet, arms or legs.
This does not usually happen from food but rather from taking to many B6 supplements.
What to do about low levels of Vitamin B6 next time, I promise.

In the last four posts, we were discussing Vitamin B12 and its relation to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
Now I am going to start to discuss the role of Vitamin B6.
Vitamin B6 deficiency can also cause dementia like symptoms in older adults.
Like a deficiency in Vitamin B12, low levels of Vitamin B6 are common in the elderly.
Most often the cause is poor a diet or a lack of absorption of the vitamin.
Also older individuals who drink too much alcohol are subject to Vitamin B6 deficiency especially if they do not eat a nutritionally sound diet.
Alcohol can destroy Vitamin B6
What to do about low levels of Vitamin B6 next time.

In the last post, we were discussing symptoms that most often develop slowly over time with a lack of Vitamin B12 in a person’s body. if this problem is not treated, Alzheimer’s disease or dementia can result because of the of lack of absorption of Vitamin B12
The fix is real easy. Get Vitamin B12 injections. It turn out your that muscle can absorb Vitamin B12 thereby alleviating the need for Vitamin B12 to be absorbed through the intestine.
It is important to look for problems that cause dementia that are fixable like this one.
Next time the role of Vitamin B6.
Like an insufficient intake of Vitamin B12, not getting enough Vitamin B6, can also develop into a dementia that can be reversed

We were discussing intrinsic factor in part 2. It is supposed to be found in the lining of your stomach.
As people age or eat a poor diet or both, intrinsic factor decreases.
When this happens, you develop Pernicious Anemia because you do not absorb the B12
How do you know if you have Pernicious anemia?
You feel tired and weak and may have a bright red, smooth tongue.
You can also have nerve damage. You get tingling and numbness in your hands and feet.
Symptoms most often develop slowly over time. If the disease is not treated, here is where you may experience mental changes like that of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
The fix is real easy.
